New Festival SÚTOK: Where History Meets Contemporary Issues and Music at Devín Castle

Bratislava, April 2, 2025: The Bratislava City Museum is introducing a brand-new summer multi-genre festival, SÚTOK. On June 14, Devín Castle will become the meeting point of history, sustainability, music, and entertainment. This festival, designed for visitors of all generations, is also announcing its first headliner: FVLCRVM, one of Slovakia’s most successful music producers.

Devín Castle has played a significant role throughout history. Visitors can explore traces of the Celts, Romans, Great Moravian inhabitants, Napoleonic troops, and the Štúr generation at this unique site. The Sútok festival will highlight both its rich history and its extraordinary location at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. This one-day event is designed for history lovers, contemporary art enthusiasts, and those interested in discussions on current topics related (but not limited) to Devín Castle, all while enjoying a vibrant entertainment program.

“Our long-term vision for Devín Castle is to make it an attractive cultural venue for everyone interested in history, who appreciates the genius loci of this extraordinary site and seek high-quality cultural events. To expand our program offering, we are introducing a one-day multi-genre festival aimed at attracting a wide audience and delivering a compelling mix of cultural, educational, and experiential activities,” said Zuzana Palicová, Director of the Bratislava City Museum, which manages Devín Castle and organizes the festival.

What to Expect at SÚTOK:

  • Family Zone with children’s activities
  • Chill-out Zone and creative workshops
  • Guided Tours of the castle grounds
  • Discussion Zone on historical and contemporary topics
  • DJ Sets throughout the day
  • Evening Concerts with top performers
  • Local Vendors and authentic local gastronomy with a story

Several artists will perform at SÚTOK, with the first announced headliner being Pišta Kráľovič, aka FVLCRVM. The acclaimed music producer has made it onto playlists of BBC (UK) and KEXP (USA) and, in March 2024, released his latest EP Aimés under the Austrian branch of Universal Music.

“For Devín Castle, a truly unique venue with an extraordinary atmosphere, I am working with lighting designer Jožko Čaba on a special show where sound and light will be rhythmically synchronized like never before. I’ll be performing brand-new tracks from my upcoming album, alongside my more dance-oriented songs and remixes of well-known hits. And of course, we have some special surprises planned, but I can’t reveal them just yet. Stay tuned!” said FVLCRVM about his upcoming performance.

“Our goal is to fully embrace the magic of this location so that visitors can enjoy the festival’s vibrant atmosphere, rich program, and a sense of freedom and safety,” says festival project manager Martina Hajachová. “We have curated the program to engage young audiences, culturally conscious visitors, and families with children. At the same time, we want to introduce Devín Castle to those who have never visited before, offering them the chance to explore its grounds and history through guided tours and expert talks.”

A key part of SÚTOK will be the Discussion Zone, where experts will delve into the historical and cultural significance of Devín Castle. Topics will include its role in shaping national identity, its symbolic importance throughout history, and the future of the Devín amphitheater.

About MMB:

The Bratislava City Museum, with a tradition spanning over 155 years (founded in 1868), is the oldest continuously operating museum in Slovakia. In line with its mission, it manages an exceptionally diverse and extensive collection of more than 120,000 artifacts. This collection includes historical, archaeological, art-historical, and ethnographic objects that document the history of Bratislava, the development of crafts, industry, and viticulture, as well as the administration of the city and various aspects of its cultural and social life. In addition to its thematic permanent exhibitions, the museum also manages the national cultural monument Devín Castle, one of the most visited castle sites in Slovakia, and the Ancient Gerulata site in Rusovce, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 2021 due to its historical significance. The museum’s collection also includes a valuable set of literary works, notably the legacy of Slovak writer Janko Jesenský.

The Bratislava City Museum is evolving into a modern cultural and memory institution, serving as a key resource for understanding the history of Bratislava and fostering dialogue between the past, present, and the city’s residents. The museum is highly aware of its role in defining and reflecting on the identity of the city while creating a space for social inclusion and engaging leisure activities that continue to captivate local audiences. The museum aims to be an active part of the city’s cultural scene, delivering its themes and content through contemporary communication strategies and dynamic programming.
