A new fragrant corner has been created in the lower part of the castle, offering visitors a glimpse into what historic gardens of the 15th and 16th centuries may have looked like.
The herb garden, prepared in cooperation with BROZ, enriches the visitor experience at Devín Castle by introducing the theme of everyday life in the past, while also supporting a sensitive approach to local biodiversity.
The garden is inspired by a time when herbs and other plants were valued mainly for their practical uses. They were grown in castles, monasteries and households, and used in cooking, healing practices and body care. Knowledge of their effects, cultivation and processing was passed down and developed over many centuries.

Today, the garden offers a peaceful place to pause and discover the scents, flavours and stories of herbs. At the same time, it creates favourable conditions for pollinators, butterflies, bees and other small insects, providing them with food and shelter.
Herb gardens at historic sites are popular because they allow visitors to experience the past through the senses — through colours, scents, and plants that were once part of everyday life. Even a small garden can become a place where care for cultural heritage naturally meets care for the living landscape.
Stop by and discover a space full of history and inspiration!
We’re open from Tuesday to Sunday, during the castle’s opening hours. More information is available at www.mmb.sk and on the social media channels of the Museum of the City of Bratislava.
